Located at the end of Kaiserstraße in Mainz, Christ Church is designed in the style of Italian High Renaissance. Its dom stands at an impressive 80m high in the city with a beautiful park in front of the church. Not that we’re experts in architecture, but when we saw Christ Church, it reminded us of Daniel’s hometown, Oxford in the UK.
Apart from holding divine ceremonies, the church is also a venue for concerts and exhibitions. Unlike its detailed and immaculate exterior, its interior is rather modern and also, empty.
In contrast to the extravagance we witnessed at Mainz Cathedral, the altar at Christ Church had nothing more than a cross hanging from the ceiling. I’m not too sure why this is the case though.
Anyone has any idea?
