Somewhere Over the Rainbow

On our evening walk after dinner, half the sky was bright blue and the other half was overcast with dark grey clouds. It was drizzling slightly and Daniel said a rainbow must be somewhere. True enough, it was up there in the sky as we walked down our street.

The weather has been rather fickle minded in Frankfurt today. It rained for a few minutes before Mr Sunshine started to show himself and this kept happening throughout the day. However, the air smelt really refreshing after each downpour. The rainbow reminded me of the all time classic, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz.

Here’s a YouTube video from the 1939 film and it’s my favourite version of the song.

Beautiful lyrics for “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high
There’s a land that I heard of once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow, Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream, really do come true

Someday I’ll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Way high above the chimney tops, that’s where you’ll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow, blue birds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow, why then, oh why can’t I?

Somewhere over the rainbow, blue birds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow, why then, oh why can’t I?

If happy little blue birds fly beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can’t I?
